PAY: $500 - $3000
The magazine of the Writers Guild of America, West, serving
its 10,000 members with stories that celebrate Hollywoods
storytellers. We are interested in stories that profile established,
working film and television writers and the stories they craft
with such art and intelligence that they influence America and
the world. We are an insiders magazine for our insider
readers. We are not interested in stories about directors, actors,
cinematographers, etc. We want bite, bias, solid reasoning,
unknown but relevant facts, and good writing. We address our
readers as intelligent, sophisticated, and curious people. Each
month we reach about 34,000 peoplehighly educated professional
men and women between the ages of 35 and 54. We assign approximately
75 percent of the stories each month to freelance writers within
the entertainment industry, either as a film/television writer
or a journalist covering film/television writers for the major-market
newspapers. Staff writes the remainder. We hire experienced
writers because they know the industry, the craft, and our audience.

Trazzler
PAY: varies
Trazzler helps would-be travelers answer the question Where
should I go? Trazzlers meander through a world of tripshand-picked,
concise, compellingly written slices of life that pull the reader
into a real experience: a hotel stay, walk, adventure, spa,
restaurant, ice cream stand, pony ride... really anywhere that
travel can take you. And thats where you come in. Each
Trazzler trip is dominated by a photo that sets the scene so
that your writing can tell the rest of the story. Our travel-writing
philosophy is different from anything else out there, so be
sure to study our writing guide and ramble through our editor's
favorites before creating your first trips. Extra points if
you nail our signature style, dont require a lot of editing,
find an area or special angle that we would have to be crazy
not to cover, or, best of all, make us forget about our mundane
lives and take us to a place that weve never been before.
Im sure we
dont have to tell you this, but no shilling, plagiarizing,
or writing about places youve never been, okay?
